New Copper Infused Clothing Can kill 99% of Bacteria

Cupron’s manufacturing process and products
An Israeli company developed a technology which uses copper to create anti bacterial clothing. The technology which recently received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval is said to be able to reduce active fungus in athlete’s foot by more than 99.9 percent after 12 hours of contact with the fiber.
The beneficial properties of copper have been known for thousands of years. More specifically, copper is known to play a part in the production of red blood cells, collagen, and promote wound healing. Even more importantly it seem to have anti-infection and anti- microbial properties. Those properties are exactly the ones the Israeli based company Cupron have been looking to exploit.
The technology developed by Cupron starts as copper oxide powder. The company combines the copper oxide with a substrate material, like polyester, in a specific ratio, forming a very small particles known as “Masterbatch”. this new material has the flexibility to easily “add” Cupron Technology to a variety of fibers, solid surfaces, and polymers as a simple additive to the normal manufacturing process of the fiber, or polymer. Adding Masterbatch to a material is very similar to adding a color and there is no change to existing manufacturing processes nor is there any special equipment required to incorporate the technology in the production of different types of products.
Cupron is using its technology to create several distinct lines of products aimed at different markets. For the costumer market Cupron has been working with socks manufacturers (creating anti bacteria/fungus socks – just like the ones sent to the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days in 2010), as well as shoes and other clothing manufacturers to create bacteria-free clothing. This type of clothing  is already used by military forces around the world. Maybe the area were Cupron can have the greatest influence is the medical world. Reducing bacterial infections which happen in hospitals and clinics is one of the greatest challenges of the medical world these days.
Recently Cupron’s products were part of a unique test in an Israeli hospital where different aspects of bacterial contamination were tested. The extremely positive results of the initial test lead the hospital to purchase bed sheets, scrubs, towels and a range of hard surfaces used on a daily basis – all with Cupron technology.
