The Interactive Institute in Sweden is an interdisciplinary research institute operating at the intersection of art, design, technology, and business for the production of innovative ideas and prototypes. STATIC!, a joint project of two ‘studios’ at the institute, designed and created the Power-Aware Cord.
The unique power strip indicates when electricity flows through the transparent electrical cord by patterns and pulses of flowing light and color through the implementation of electroluminescent wires. The more electrical current, the more intense the glow. Not merely an interesting design feature, the indicator cable is meant as a glaring reminder of energy consumption.
