AMD to Fight Intel with a Dragon

AMD is about to release a brand new platform technology, named “Dragon,” featuring its new AMD Phenom II X4 processor. The platform has been designed specially for demanding users and high-end gaming as well as graphic and video professionals and enthusiasts.

The Dragon platform technology unites AMD’s highest-performing CPU, the AMD Phenom II X4 processor, with the company’s advanced ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series graphic core and AMD 7-Series chipsets. Leading global PC producers HP, Dell, and Alienware are preparing to release Dragon based desktop systems in the first quarter of 2009, with Dell offering immediate availability in its Dell XPS desktop line.

The AMD Phenom II X4 processor features intelligent multi-core technology that instinctively supplies processing power where it is required while multitasking. The system also offers speeds of up to 3.0 GHz with significant headroom for overclocking.

AMD hopes to change the desktop PC industry by providing affordable all-in-one solution with high levels of performance capable of handling gaming, video editing, and other media-intensive tasks. Although Intel, AMD’s direct competitor, has been leading the “CPU war” for quite some time now, AMD feels it might be able to fight back with a combined all-AMD-solution (CPU/GPU and chipset) which might prove to be more cost effective than a comparable Intel based system.
Since the platform was specially produced for high performance, the company has also included their feature power management system called Cool ‘n’ Quiet 3.0. Its multi-core design produces low processor temperatures and quiet fans, even when playing (or working) with HD content.
