Exotic species lie at the bottom of Japan's Suruga Bay, home to such creatures as chimeras, lantern sharks and anglerfish – a type of fish that can walk across the seafloor sand using fins that have elbows. Among the inhabitants of these deep waters is also a giant spider crab – the largest crab in the world, which is only found in Japan and is also known as the “dead man’s crab” due to the fact that it is often found lurking near bodies of drowned mariners. Suruga Bay is also home to the abyssal cusk eel, a species of fish that can live deeper in the sea than any other known fish.
