How big is our Universe? When we ask this question, we usually refer to the size of the observable universe, which consists of the galaxies and other matter that can be observed from Earth – these are the objects from which light has had time to reach our planet since the beginning of the cosmological expansion. Astronomers often speak of the size of the Universe in terms of actual distances – billions of light years. But that certainly doesn't help us visualize the space tour we would embark upon if we just kicked off from our home planet in some arbitrary direction. This video attempts to give viewers a slightly better sense of how vast the world we live in really is.
