The world’s first OLED Christmas tree was lit by the OLED team at General Electric Global Research. The tree, which was made by wrapping a working 6-inch by 15-foot roll-out OLED screen around a stand, was given the festive name “The Holiday Tree,” and according to some witnesses was also accompanied by “a fat man with a white beard and a red jumpsuit made out of OLEDs.” According to GE, the project was carried out to demonstrate the advancements made by the OLED team over the past year, including an improvement in efficiency and longevity of the diodes - an important step towards bringing the technology to large scale applications.
