Google’s recreation of Ancient Rome, which was recently launched on Google Earth, is one of the most extensive collections of three dimensional buildings and the first ancient city to be fully virtualized online. The model, which reflects Rome as it stood in 320 AD, includes more than 6700 buildings and allows users to enjoy a virtual visit to the Roman Forum, stand in the centre of the Colosseum, trace the footsteps of the gladiators in the Ludus Magnus, and even examine the detail on the facade of the Basilica of Maxentius.
