TechCrunch has recently published an update on their “CrunchPad” device – a touch screen tablet that allows users to easily surf the web without being dependant on an internal operating system of a PC or laptop. Since the device only focuses on a single application of web browsing, it uses very low-end hardware and its developers say it will most likely be priced somewhere around $300. In this video the team demonstrates Prototype B of CrunchPad, which sports a 12-inch touch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and resolution of 1024x768. The device is powered by a Via Nano processor, and includes 1GB of RAM and a 4GB flash drive to store the OS, browser, and cache. The developers say that now that they’ve built a “dead simple and dirt cheap touch screen web tablet to surf the web” they are weighing whether they should take the project into the production stage. |
