University of Tokyo engineers demonstrated a series of robots capable of performing a variety of housekeeping jobs. Among the demonstrated inventions was a robot that can pick up dishes from a table and carry them over to the kitchen counter. A separate robotic arm, equipped with 18 sensors of five different types, then took the dishes and placed them into a dish-washer, carefully dropping them into place and hitting the dish-washer’s start button. According to the scientists, these automated kitchen assistants will hit the market in as early as five years from today. Scientists say they are now concentrating their efforts on making the machines smaller, lighter, and speedy enough to be of use. Robots that will do your laundry and sweep the floor are already in the making.
