iRobot Corporation demonstrates its “PackBot” robot – capable of climbing stairs and navigating narrow, twisting passages through rocks, mud, snow, gravel, and other rough terrain. The robot, which can climb grades up to 60 degrees and travel at speeds of up to 5.8 miles per hour (9.3 km/h), is equipped with a shock-resistant chassis that can survive shocks of up to 400 Gs. Moreover, this tough robot can withstand a six-foot drop (1.8 m) onto concrete, being thrown through a window, tumbling downstairs, and being deployed from a low-altitude helicopter.
