Biomedical engineers created a robotic arm to help orthopedic surgeons, namely those who specialize in knee replacements, perform more accurate resurfacings, speeding up patient recovery time, reducing pain, and improving the overall results of the procedure.

A team, led by Rony Abovitz, a biomedical engineer at MAKO Surgical Corporation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida designed the robotic arm system, making the resurfacing process so precise that it allows patients to be released from the hospital in as little as one day after surgery, and experience significantly less pain than patients who go through the surgery via other methods.
