The “Science Commons” website aims to provide researchers with tools for faster and more efficient web-enabled scientific research. According to its creators, the site crafts special policy guidelines and legal agreements in order to lower “unnecessary barriers to research” and develops technology that significantly eases the process of translating sometimes petabytes of research data into meaningful discovery. The website features Science Commons’ “NeuroCommons” tool – a “proof-of-concept” project within the field of neuroscience, which in essence is a beta open source knowledge management system for biomedical research.
