The Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) is a project that aims "to organize and make available via the Internet virtually all information about life present on Earth". While such a goal seems ambitious at best, the website does include an impressive collection of approximately 1.8 million individual pages, each dedicated to some known species. In addition to images and detailed overviews, each species page also includes several links aimed at more specialized users. EOL was originally compiled by scientists and other professionals working from museums and research institutions around the world.
