Exploring life's origins is part of a multimedia exhibit at the Museum of Science in Boston (which TFOT has covered in the past). This intriguing website features a timeline of the evolution of life on Earth, dating back as far as 4.5 billion years ago and providing short explanations about important events. In addition, scientists answer questions about how life evolved and what early life forms looked like, in terms of our molecules, known as RNA. Many illustrations and animations are available in the building a protocell section, including explanations about nucleic acids, fatty acids, and protocells.
