The Darwin Correspondence Project was founded in 1974 by an American scholar, Frederick Burkhardt, with the aid of Sydney Smith, a zoologist in the University of Cambridge (UK). During his lifetime, Darwin exchanged letters with nearly 2,000 people. These letters are an invaluable source of information about his work and intellectual development, give insight on Victorian science. This site offers links to a few of Darwin's correspondences and allows web surfers to explore his letters. A very interesting part of this site addresses the relationship between Darwin and religious belief.
