Genome Programs U.S. – is the official site of the genome programs of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. The site includes vast amounts of information about government-sponsored projects related to genome research. These include the Human Genome Project (HGP) that ended in 2003 after identifying the 20,000-25,000 genes of the human DNA, the Microbial Genome Program (MGP), which started in 1994 as a spin-off of the Human Genome Program, with the aim of identifying microbial DNA genes for the benefit of mankind, and other projects such as the Biomass To Bio-fuels Project.
