A ten year study of sea life has revealed just what lives beneath the waves. An inventory published today in the journal "PLoS ONE" has found that the distribution and diversity of marine life varies greatly across regions. The richest waters for marine life are around Australia and Japan; each feature almost 33,000 known species. The average number of species in a region is 10,750 across the 25 areas studied.
