| BIXI was created from a clean sheet with the intention of marrying the practical with the aesthetic. World-renowned industrial designer Michel Dallaire was entrusted with the design of the physical components. The bikes themselves feature clean lines and a sleek look that according to the creators in no way compromises their sturdiness and safety. | ||||||||||

| Design elements are carried over to the technical platforms, bike docks and pay stations. Third generation public bike systems are automated systems, capable of accepting payments from credit cards or swipe cards, and whose activities can be monitored from a distance. However, most third generation systems, like "Velib" in Paris, require considerable excavation, permanently altering the urban landscape, inconveniencing residents during construction and creating pollution -- exactly what public bike systems are trying to combat.
