Toshiba announced its first touch-screen mobile device, JournE Touch, at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) electronic consumer fair in Berlin. The launch of Toshiba’s touch-screen came as a surprise, as the company was rather expected to announce its first Blu-ray disc player instead.
The JournE Touch has a seven-inch screen, is half-inch thick and weighs less than a pound. It also has integrated Wi-Fi and Windows CE. Toshiba's executive Marco Perino said that the device can be used "when you want to access the Internet without booting your PC." Perino also promoted Touch as a choice over smartphone, which he said "is not so practical because the keyboard is not the right size." According to reports, JournE Touch is purely for accessing the Internet or sharing content with other devices around the home. Toshiba said that the new device would be introduced in Europe by the end of 2009. It would be released in other regions in early 2010. The price currently stands at 249 Euros, or roughly $360.
