The Computex 2009 exhibition served as an appropriate platform for ASUS to share its “Seamless Experience” vision. The idea behind the novel technology, according to ASUS, is to create a truly intuitive and effortless computing lifestyle, which requires minimal human intervention. The concept is the result of the collated feedback, suggestions and recommendations of users around the world submitted via WePC.com, a joint initiative between ASUS and Intel.
The “Seamless Experience” concept aims to revolutionize research in the digital era. In order to bridge the gap between users and devices, the difference between virtual and physical space has been minimized. ASUS offers four key design thrusts to simplify the way users utilize their digital surroundings - these designs were implemented in a table-like interface, shown in this YouTube video.
The first element focuses on communication - ASUS presents users with the ability to transfer photographs, documents and practically any file between notebooks placed on the same table. The second element is information; gathered from several points of origin, data can be transformed into a digital file which can be shared between all devices on the table. This feature actually enables to analyze data from non-digital formats, such as information scribbled on a piece of paper. In such cases the computer deciphers the handwriting and stores it for future use.
The third element is the option users have to remotely leverage their notebooks; using a super-computer, the computing power can be maximized. Such connection also enables remote access to personal data, multimedia files and office documents – without the need to carry around a portable memory device. The fourth and final element is the option to synchronize PDAs, mobile phones, PCs and notebooks. The idea is to give multiple users the ability to work on the same file, which can be edited on a single device and simultaneously sent to all others.
While ASUS has shown great potential for its futuristic interface, the company hasn’t revealed any pricing information and it remains to be seen how soon the “Seamless Experience” concept can be incorporated into our daily lives.
