Kodak has recently unveiled the world's first consumer-available OLED wireless picture frame. The 7.6-inch diagonal digital panel utilizes Kodak's OLED technology, promising to deliver sharp and vivid image quality while enabling the viewer to see the picture or video featured from different viewing angles. The frame will be on display during Photokina, the world’s largest photo and imaging trade fair, which takes place in Cologne, Germany on September 23-28.

The OLED Wireless Frame features wide screen display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 800x480 resolution. It's 2 GB of built-in internal memory can store up to 10,000 images. In addition, the frame incorporates an ambient light sensor which adjusts display brightness based on the surrounding light, so that no backlighting is necessary.

Connectivity to online photo and video sharing sites, as well as displaying pictures stored on a remote PC is made possible thanks to the frame's built-in Wi-Fi capability. In order to organize, edit, and transfer pictures from a PC to the frame, one can use the KODAK EASYSHARE Digital Display Software .

“Our new OLED frame foreshadows a dynamic future of an exciting new generation of KODAK products that deliver unsurpassed image quality and unprecedented clarity and color for capturing and reliving life’s moments," said Pete Jameson, general manager of the Digital Devices Group of the Eastman Kodak Company.

The OLED Wireless Frame utilizes the Kodak Perfect Touch Technology as well as KODAK Image Science, thus delivering an optimized image quality display and enhancing the viewing experience. Additionally, a premium audio system was designed into the frame. The frame will retail for US $999 (MSRP) and will be available from November 2008.

TFOT covered other digital frames including the world's largest digital picture frame – the 32" SP3200 presented in the CES 2008, and SHOGO – a touch screen, WiFi, digital picture frame by Fidelity Electronics. TFOT also reported on Sony's 11-inch OLED-based TV, which is the first commercial OLED TV model to go on sale, thus opening the way to a possible revolution in the flat panel display market, which until now included only LCD and Plasma based devices.

More information about Kodak's OLED Wireless Frame can be found on the company's press release.
