Sony Ericsson has recently introduced the C905 Cyber-Shot which, according to the company, offers an unprecedented resolution of 8.1 megapixels. Although such a high resolution can be found in many regular cameras, it is said to be first time cellular phone is supporting it.
Sony Ericsson's C905 is its first Cyber-Shot slider and the company regards it as the most advanced camera phone developed so far. Besides the camera capabilities, Sony Ericsson designed the device to resemble the look of a camera as well. Sven Totte, head of imaging marketing at Sony Ericsson said "The C905 Cyber-Shots have been developed to make us all better photographers; that means making it easier to take great shots and never missing that magic moment." According to Totte, the C905 is a real and viable alternative to a digital camera.
Current camera phones range between 2.0 to 5.0 megapixels, however as any good photographer knows, megapixels are just a small part of the what makes a good quality camera and many other factors besides picture resolution affect the overall “photographic quality” including lens quality and processors, among other factors.
In order to enable photography at night or indoors, Sony Ericsson has installed a Xenon flash on the C905. Other features include face detection auto-focus, smart contrast, image stabilizers and red-eye reduction, all intended to improve common issues which customers face while using cameras. Digital zoom allows enlargement of up to 16 times and storage capacity is up to 2GB, found in a provided Memory Stick Micro. The kit also includes a USB adaptor which can be used to transfer the images to and from users' PCs.
The C905 display is 2.4" and said to be scratch-resistant due to the mineral glass used. The connectivity options of the C905 include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA, and TV-out cable (so photos can be shown on a nearby television set). The slider design is quite elegant and it is offered in three colors named Night Black, Ice Silver, and Copper Gold. All in all, the new camera phone seems to have a promising future if the price – that is yet to be set – will be competitive.
