TechFaith , a Chinese Wireless Communication company, has announced the launch of the world's first WCDMA/GSM dual mode pocket pc phone, named "Twins". Up until now, costumers who wanted to use two SIM cards on their pocket pc phone had to turn off their phone every time they wanted to switch from one SIM card to the other. The new dual-mode Twins phone allows the user to use both SIM cards at the same time. In this way, the phone can work on two cellular networks and even if the networks are based on different technologies, such as GSM and WCDMA.

Having two active SIM cards means the user could be available at two different phone numbers using only one mobile device. For example, businessmen who would like to receive calls to their private number while being available on their business line would no longer need to carry two phones. In other SIM based phones, the phone must be restarted or the SIM card must be replaced before the line can be changed The new pocket-PC Twins phone, allows the user to work with more than one cellular network at a time, even when each network is based on a different technology.

Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) and Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) are standards for data transmission, generally used for transmitting voice data. The latter is used for relaying what is known as 3G (third generation) services, such as video-calls and high speed internet access. Most products using mobile technologies (such as hand-held computers, PDAs) need the fastest internet connection available or the user experiences poor quality of service. A dual-SIM phone could dynamically pick the carrier with the best reception at any given place, enhancing the quality of internet services and phone calls and even lowering the roaming rates.

The Twins mobile phone is available in two models, "Dragonfly" and "OMAP", The main differences between Dragonfly and OMAP are their CPU (OMAP is faster) and the supported networks (quad-band and tri-band, accordingly). Both Twins models are equipped with a 2.0 Megapixel digital camera, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2DP) connectivity, a 2.8" touch sensitive 65,000 colors TFT-LCD display screen, a 256MB/64MB ROM memory (OMAP/Dragonfly), and a USB 2.0 connection. In addition, the phones have a micro SD slot, which can be used for memory expansion cards

Twins uses Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC OS from Microsoft and is equipped with a powerful 1.500 mAh internal battery. The phone is a bit bulkier than many of today's sleeker pocket pc phones (measuring 117*61*16.4 mm). However, many people, especially those who travel a lot, may feel that its impressive list of features more than compensates for this drawback. Prices for the OMAP/Dragonfly have yet to be announced;
