Yamaha recently introduced a new alarm clock, the TSX-W80, which offers musical awakening via the supplied wireless iPod cradle. In addition, a second product launched, the TSX-W70, which offers similar benefits using a built-in cradle.

In the TSX-W80 model the streaming of sound is made thanks to Yamaha’s proprietary AirWired technology, which handles the data sent from one’s iPod directly into the alarm clock. In contrary, the TSX-W70 model uses a built-in cradle. Both models support most iPod-like devices: iPhone, iPhone 3G, and so on. The music’s source isn’t limited to iPods; radio stations could wake you up as well, if you prefer lively chattering during the morning. As expected, both AM and FM broadcasting are supported.

In both models the speaker setting is 2.1, meaning two 4-watt speakers and a single 8-watt speaker play the chosen music. The supplied remote control helps switching between stations or songs, as well as adjusting volume level. While its price is yet to be announced, Yamaha announced that the TSX-W80 and TSX-W70 would hit the stores in Japan around December. However, no plans were announced for North America.

TFOT has also covered the world's most violent alarm clock, built by mounting a large air cylinder to the head of the bed, and the Philips AJL305, a stylish alarm clock with radio and voice messaging capabilities. Other related TFOT stories include Waterdrop, a story about an innovative clock and personal weather station, and Glo Pillow, a pleasant alternative to the conventional alarm clock that uses light and not sound in order to wake sleepers
