California-based company Adesso has recently unveiled their latest keyboard, the SlimTouch WKB-4000BB, which features wireless connectivity thanks to Bluetooth technology. The new keyboard is both compact and elegant, and offers users a small touchpad that can replace the traditional mouse.

The new keyboard is designed for optimal portability; with dimensions of 11.75" x 8.25" x 0.8" and weight of 1.25lbs, it can be carried along with a Netbook, providing users more ergonomic interface than the minimal keyboard found on most UMPCs. Moreover, frustrated users that dislike the common, small Netbooks’ touchpad will be happy to find a 3.0" x 1.75" built-in GlidePoint touchpad.

The SlimTouch WKB-4000BB connects to PCs via Bluetooth, through the supplied dongle-receiver. Unlike many dongles – which tend to be bulky – this one is so small that the package has an arrow pointing towards it. According to specifications it is 0.86" x 0.59" x 0.28".

Another interesting feature is the implemented “Scissor Switch” technology, which supposedly silences typing. However, nowadays a lot of products promise similar advantages – while in reality keys might perform differently. The package includes two AAA batteries, required for power, and a LED light indicator for when they are low on power. A second LED indicates when Bluetooth connectivity is on.

Currently the new keyboard is priced at $130, and it supports Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 – but not Mac-based systems. Although it could be a good solution for eager typists that like to be portable, some might find it a burdening addition to their backpack.

TFOT has previously covered Luxeed, a unique LED keyboard that allows each user to assign a different color for each key, and the Cideko Air Keyboard, a wireless keyboard that combines a traditional keyboard with a three-dimensional mouse and gamepad. Other related TFOT stories include the Razer Naga, a 17-key mouse specially designed for gamers, and the SlimBlade TrackBall, an innovative device that offers a one-touch user interface for navigation, media controls, document editing and photo browsing
