Although the new OS tripled JavaScript performance, the new OS 3.0 adds a good chunk of time to startup the devices. And despite the much faster JavaScript performance, web pages load slightly slower in OS 3.0 than in 2.2. Mobile analyst Sascha Segan considers that it's clearly to do with graphics and layout rendering rather than JavaScript. (source: pcmag.com)

The margins are too small to worry about, and I don't power them off, (2 touches, 2 iPhones 2G) that often. As for the fee for OS 3.0, it is only paid once, no matter how many touches you upgrade, so it is less for 'families that may have more than a single touch. I'll assume that they tested the latest units and not the Gen 1 iplod touche? It is interesting to see a difference between iplod and iphone. |
