AMD has released a new Shanghai server CPU that greatly increases performance through the lowest power-band available today. With a 35% reduction in CPU idle power (compared to a 2.3 GHz Barcelona-based Opteron) and a 12% reduction in platform power, the new Opteron EE sets a low-power standard that will serve cloud computing apps quite well. The 40 watt Opteron EE CPUs at 2.1 GHz and 2.3 GHz allow more physical CPUs and cores to be put into the same power or thermal envelope.    (source: geek.com)
