A prototyped capacitive touch panel was demonstrated by Mitsubishi Electric Corp at the Interaction 2009 in Tokyo, Japan. The 3D touch panel can detect not only x- and y- coordinates but also its z- coordinates by detecting the distance between a finger and panel. Screen size is approximately 5.7 inches with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The 3D touch panel functions by switching between two detection methods and would be determined by the position of the finger.    (source: physorg.com)
