The acidic gas hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is an environmental pollutant because of its toxic, malodorous, and corrosive nature. Every year, millions of tons of H2S are produced around the world from oil-refinery plants or natural-gas extraction, which is predicted to increase in the future. Decomposition of H2S has therefore attracted attention because of the environmental problems it causes at levels higher than the threshold limit of 10ppm, above which its harmful effects on life are seen.    (source: spie.org)
