The Red Planet has never been a tropical paradise, but after investigating how a canyon in south-central Idaho formed, a group of terrestrial geologists is now questioning whether early Mars had even the minimal conditions for life. Instead, one or more catastrophic megafloods gouged it out in a matter of days or weeks, the geologists say.    (source: sciencenow.sciencemag.org)
