Scientists could soon be taking the techniques of modern law enforcement into the jungle. Welcome to CSI: Rainforest. Francesco Ficetola of the University of Joseph Fourier in France and colleagues are pioneering "forensic ecology" using genetic analysis techniques borrowed from the police. The techniques could allow scientists to detect early signs of an ecological invasion, allowing it to be contained early. The method can also be used to track rare species from the fragments of DNA they leave    (source: newscientist.com)
