From the editor

We are proud to launch today the new and full version of The Future of Things (TFOT) e-magazine. TFOT was first launched as a beta site in late September 2006 with the aim of creating a different form of electronic magazine covering science and technology. We covered a large variety of topics and developments ranging from Cancer and AIDs research to computing developments and future energy sources.

Here at TFOT we strived to put scientific and technological breakthroughs in the correct perspective, with emphasized accuracy as our main value. To achieve this we tried doing something very few others were able to do before – making as many Q&A interviews (published "as is") as we possibly could. This helped us achieve the utmost level of accuracy outside the academic and professional realm. On the downside, this also required a lengthy process of preparation and the cooperation of scientists, researchers, and the industry. With the introduction of the new site we aim to continue the Q&A tradition in our articles while adding focus on daily events and news, as well as allowing researchers, industry leaders and visionaries to share their thoughts and ideas about the future.

What's New In TFOT?

Besides the new layout and design, which make the site more appealing and help users find relevant content more easily, the new website includes a range of sections, many of them new, including:

  1. Articles - In depth comprehensive and exclusive topical coverage of new and future science and technology subjects, including interviews with leading scientists, engineers, and other visionaries.
  2. News – Daily coverage of science and technology related events.
  3. Personal columns – Opinions and personal thoughts on science, technology, futurism, the Web and much more.
  4. Book reviews – Reviews of books in the fields of popular science, history of technology, futurism and more.
  5. Site of the week – A weekly presentation of a selected topical site related to TFOT's core subjects with brief commentary.
  6. Picture of the day – Daily picture and commentary on relevant topics.
  7. Forums – (Coming soon) A place for users to discuss sci-tech news and current events, ask questions and learn about past and future technologies, and comment on our content.
Here at TFOT we value your opinion and would like to hear what you think. This is why we plan to put a great deal of emphasis on the forums as a place to meet, discuss common interests and comment on the site itself to help us improve. Initially, we plan to open a small number of forums and expand according to the demand of the growing community.

We see this launch as a first phase. In the weeks and months ahead we will continue to improve TFOT, adding new features and further developing existing ones. We will update you on our progress in the "From the Editor" column whenever necessary, and hope you continue enjoying TFOT!
