Floating Bed Concept – designed by Janjaap Ruijssenaars from Universe Architecture. The bed is suspended 40 cm in the air, held by a permanent magnetic force due to the use of neodymium (NdFeB) elements in the floor as well as in the bed.
Thin steel cables assure its position and the use of steel plates and air make it user-friendly by strongly decreasing the magnetic force where unnecessary. The bed supports a load of up to 900 kg. Currently, this masterpiece only exists as a 1:5 scale model and will be displayed in the 100% Design Fair in Rotterdam. The full size model will cost 1,200,000 euro when ready – but what a way to impress!
